Sound as Mirror
master programme module 1 final project, More than One Voice studio.
Starting from the collection of everyday sounds and inner thoughts, such as cooking, shopping, and doing laundry, one can use the careful listening of daily activities and the sounds they produce as a way to construct a space.
Document & experiment of daily routine sound
Kai-Hsiang chose the most emblematic moment in his daily life: wiping water after a shower, as the period when inner monologue is most frequent. In terms of form, this can be associated with arranging Japanese dry landscape gardens (karesansui), as both convey an experience close to "Zen" through simple, repetitive labor.
Raking dry landscape garden
He attempts to use sound as feedback for labor and material for constructing an inner space, seeking the comforting sound of his inner self in such ordinary daily chores.
